An accumulator tank, an optional also known as a pressure accumulator or bladder tank, is a relatively small but beneficial component in an RV's water system. Here's an overview of its function, benefits, and what to consider when choosing one for your RV.

Function

• Installed on the pressurized side of your RV's water pump, the accumulator tank acts like a mini pressure reservoir.

• It consists of two chambers separated by an internal rubber diaphragm. One chamber is pre-filled with air, while the other chamber holds pressurized water from the pump.

How it Works

• As you turn on a faucet and water flows, the pressure in the water chamber drops.

• The pressurized air in the other chamber pushes on the diaphragm, forcing water out of the tank and maintaining consistent flow at the faucet, even momentarily.

• Once the pressure drops to a certain level, the water pump automatically activates and refills the water chamber in the tank.

• This cycle continues as you use water, creating a smoother flow and preventing the pump from short-cycling (rapidly turning on and off).
